Plan on worshipping outside on September 5.

Fall Worship Schedule
Begins Sunday, September 12
2 worship services – 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM
9:30 AM classes for all

Adult Classes
Beginning Sunday September 12 at 9:30 AM

New Member Classes: For those interested in joining Black Forest Lutheran Church and anyone else wanting to attend. We get to know each other, learn about why we do what we do in worship, Baptism and Holy Communion, our spiritual gifts and who we are as BFLC. We will meet in the sanctuary at 9:30 AM.

Joining Jesus Classes: Jesus is alive and on the loose working to heal and restore lives everywhere. He’s doing all the hard work – dying for us, being everywhere at once, putting people together at the right time
and place. And he invites us to join him on his mission as we extend a hand in welcome, a word of encouragement, and a cup of cold water.

Life Groups: We’re about to launch “Life Groups at BFLC. Groups of 8-10 people will gather at homes
monthly for food, fellowship and faith. See page 2 for details.

News Flash:
Greg Finke, author of “Joining Jesus on His Mission” will be at BFLC, Saturday & Sunday, October 2 & 3!
Mark your calendars!

From Pastor John

Good News for Black Forest Lutheran Church (BFLC); Life Groups
“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” 1 Cor:2.
First things first. Our Lord Jesus Christ loves me, has mercy on me, redeems me and gives me life eternal. He also does all these things FOR YOU. This is the best news ever. Pastor John is glad to be here with you.
This is why here at BFLC we are doing Life Groups. This is an opportunity to get together with fellow Christians once a month, in a small group home setting, to deepen our relationships to Jesus and one another. There will be food, prayer, fellowship and Bible study. On September 26, we will be having a kick-off event where you can sign up for one of these Life Groups. Or just call Lisa at the church office. There are also still opportunities to lead one of these groups so if that interests you just let Lisa know. It is good to be among friends!

Also, you can look forward to Sunday, September 12 between services, where we will have New Membership class, Sunday School, and a “Joining Jesus on His Mission, How We are Doing”. We are going to get super practical on living out our faith in everyday life. If you missed some or all of the first ‘Joining Jesus’ classes, this will still be a great opportunity to join in. Be blessed in participating in one of these ministries 9:30am every Sunday starting Sunday, September 12.

Don’t forget that Greg Finke, author and teacher of the book “Joining Jesus on His Mission” will be at BFLC the weekend of Sunday, October 3. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about being active in our faith. We will continue to grow in living our faith in Jesus together, thanks be to God.

Much more coming soon!
Pastor John Graham

From Jacob Oglesby, Youth and Family Ministries Director

Greetings all Jacob here,
What a fantastic month this has been. I really enjoyed summer at BFLC. Throughout this month I have continued to offer youth group sessions under our new summer hours which are every Wednesday from 6-7:30 PM. These continue to be a great time for us in the life of the church and I am enjoying the time I have with the students. I am also looking forward to confirmation class beginning on September 8th.

Along with these weekly set meetings I am still connecting with the students on a regular basis, including youth and young adults. With our last young adult meeting on Friday, August 27th at 6:00 PM. Although our summer meetings have been more irregular, I have enjoyed meeting many of them one on one for meals, discussions, and Bible studies.

This last month we had several events specifically for the youth that were not only a blast but were a fantastic way to facilitate building community within the group as well. We had a table Tennis Tournament on July 18th that turned into more of a cornhole tournament. Special thanks to Aileen Sanders who did a fantastic job and took ownership of the event from start to finish.

We also had a youth presence at the Black Forest Festival in which several youths did face painting for the festival attendees. A special thanks to those who were able to help and participate in that event. We also had a youth movie night on the August 11th. The movie night went fantastically well with Tyler Wesley taking ownership of this event and helping to lead that event as well. It was a great night in the life of the church.

I also had an amazing opportunity to go to Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp at the end of July into the beginning of this month. I had the opportunity to connect with several adult leaders from our church as well as pastors and ministers from all over the country while at the same time connecting with different youth groups. I made several different connections with the RTLC staff members and look forward to seeing where God continues to lead these relationships.

We are looking forward to some amazing events and times in September. These have had to be adapted due to the raise in COVID cases and our youth committees’ desire to both use wisdom as well as engage in our youth group.

As always if there are any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
For His glory,
Jacob Oglesby
