BFLC Youth and Family Ministries

At Black Forest Lutheran Church, we are children in God’s hands. As fellow disciples of Christ, all Youth and Education events are our efforts to lead all to know and trust Jesus.

We welcome you to visit, bring a friend or neighbor, and see how God is at work in our Black Forest based faith family!

  • We are a people who connect, in joy and in challenge.
  • We honor God, our families, our community, ourselves.
  • We care for our community by service to each other and especially those in need.
  • We connect often to learn about God!

Confirmation Camp 2021

August 2021 Youth and Family Message

Greetings all,
This has already been a very busy month, but we are SO excited that things are happening here at BFLC. Throughout this month I have continued to offer youth group sessions under our new summer hours which are every Wednesday from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. Invite your friends and classmates because it is an absolute blast. These continue to be a great time for us in the life of the church and I am enjoying the time I have with the students.

Along with these weekly set meetings with the youth I am still connecting with the students on a regular basis, including youth and young adults. Although packed schedules didn’t allow for us to have an official young adult meeting this month, I have had the opportunity to meet with all of our regular young adult group attendees for lunch or dinner.
Although not as convenient as planning a single event these meetings are fantastic and I enjoy breaking bread with our congregation’s younger generation.

As things open up in the lives of the students there still seems to be a mad dash for their time. Students and parents’ schedules continue to be more packed with events and traveling and I couldn’t be more excited. With that, though, comes a reprioritizing of events that our youth will be able to be involved in. As such we will be moving our sweetheart dinner from sometime this summer to its regularly scheduled date in February. We had wanted to offer it at some time during this summer but after much thought and consideration we have decided to keep it at its original date which will be around Valentine’s Day. Even though we are pushing this event back we have had the opportunity to host many great events for both youth and families.

The largest and most prominent of these events was that of both VBS and night camp that took place the first week in July. We had a great group of students who participated in our in-person VBS with over 15 volunteers. This program ran from Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM -12:15 PM and was both fantastically run as well as a blast to be a part of. During the afternoons I had the opportunity to connect more with the students as well as the Rainbow Trail Staff and, in the evenings, we ran “Night Camp”. This was such a great time! We had a blast with the students playing games, eating snacks, and doing a Bible study together as well. I was so blessed to have been able to see some of our students for the first time. We also had an ice cream social on Thursday night with the parents and this was a great time to connect with them as well. On Sunday, the 18th I also had the opportunity of destroying some students in both corn hole and table tennis reminding
me, yet again, that I love my job!

We are looking forward to some amazing events and times in early August including Black Forest Festival engagement, movie night and weekly youth group meetings continuing as well.

For His glory,
Jacob Oglesby
