Details for Special Projects
We will perform fire mitigation on George Kerstein’s property in July. The project will have two phases:
Phase 1 we will down selected trees and limb them. Work days are Saturday, July 8th and Saturday, July 15th starting at 8:30 AM and going till 4:00 PM. If we finish the work at George’s early, we will start work on tree removal at Donna Wesley’s place. Here we will cut, limb, remove slash and offer the firewood to anyone who wants it. Phase 1 work will require chain saws and personal protection gear. We will have water on site. Bring your lunch if you plan to work into the afternoon.
Phase 2 will be back at George’s. We will have 10 volunteers from Next Step Ministries working with us from Monday, July 17th through Thursday, July 20th . These are youth from across the country that are spending a week at a time performing community development projects. We plan to clean up the slash and pile it in a nearby field. This will be some dirty work! If we need to continue the work into the following week, Next Step Ministries may be able to provide 10 more volunteers for 4 days.
Phase 2 will require some chain saw work. We will need trailers to haul the slash to the field and trucks to drag the logs to the clearing. I will bring chains for this part. The volunteers will help load and unload the trailers. I have access to two 10’ trailers. We could use 2 more and vehicles to pull them.
Also, during Phase 2 we have offered to provide lunch for the entire group, as well as water. If you would like to help with this, email Vonda Dowdy. If you are interested in helping with this Special Project, please call Joe Dowdy or sign up on bulletin board.

July is Birthday Month
On Sunday, July 2 we will celebrate the birthday of our nation and the birthdays of BFLC members with a birthday cake. We are asking you to give a gift-coin for every birthday you have celebrated. The coins collected that day will be given to the Fischer House. A container for your coins will be on the table, so don’t put your birthday offering in the offering plate.
Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.
The Simply Giving Program
Pre-authorized Withdrawal is Available at BFLC
The Simply Giving Program is offered by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans at no charge. It is a reliable, safe way to move your stewardship plan into action. It allows you to share your donations through planned giving and activates your generosity into ongoing stewardship. Because your donation is given consistently, you won’t need to play “catch-up” at year-end or worry about forgotten checkbooks or missed Sunday offerings. If you would like more information, contact the church office.

Mission Endowment Fund (MEF)
The MEF is a part of our church. The fund manages designated monies with an eye toward furthering the work of Christ. It has been funded by designated donations, either from church members or from memorial gifts. The interest and dividends earned by the investments are donated to causes consistent with the church, by the committee. The most recent donation, for example, went to Didi Panzo, our missionary in Boma, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
If you would like to learn more about the MEF, to be on the committee, or to make a donation, contact a committee member: Lora Kobilan, Chris Cooper, Bill Dieckhoff, Kathy Schwindt, or Ed Storey.

El Paso Mission Trip
BFLC and Cristo Rey have been partners for almost two decades. Over the past few years, BFLC has consistently sent adults and youth to be part of the El Paso Border Immersion Program each summer. The El Paso Mission trip is not only an opportunity to strengthen relationship between the two congregations and their youth ministries, but also a chance for our youth to learn about the immigration realities and life on the borders from the various sides. Besides, the youth of BFLC will have a chance to grow in their faith and love for God and in serving his people as they lead the Vacation Bible School program for that week. This is a great opportunity for the youth to grow in worship, ministry, evangelism, discipleship and ministry.
Let Sedra know if you are interested.
