Didi Panzo, Sunday, July 1
Didi Panzo, our missionary to the Congo will be with us Sunday, July 1 for worship and discussion following. Didi and his wife Serefina are back in the US for a month. They work with victims of domestic and sexual abuse as well as those caught up in human trafficking. They bring the hope and healing of Jesus Christ to those hurting in the town of Boma in the far western part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
We’ll hear about ‘Grace’ the 15 yr old who was forced to work the streets of Boma. Now 28 years old with a baby, we helped her have the surgery she badly needed. We’ll hear about the Lutheran Church in Boma, whose roof was blown off in a storm. They are now worshipping with a new roof, protected from the fierce sun and rain. Don’t miss Didi on Sunday.
Jeremy Ryan, New Youth and Family Ministries Director
Jeremy Ryan, our new Youth and Family Ministry Director, will be starting part-time here at BFLC in July, as he commutes from home in Longmont, Colorado. He and his wife, Dasia, are waiting for their house to be completed here in Colorado Springs. Jeremy will be here 2-3 days a week, then beginning full-time August 1.
Jeremy is meeting with Youth, Education and Evangelism committees to be planning late summer and fall programs. He and his family will be joing us for worship Sunday, July 1, as well as July 15 and 29.
I am pleased to have Jeremy with us. His experience as a youth director as well as teacher of special needs students gives him helpful knowledge and perspective. Be sure to come meet the family this Sunday.

July is Birthday Month
On Sunday, July 1 we celebrate the birthday of our nation and the birthdays of BFLC members with a birthday cake. We are asking you to give a gift-coin for every birthday you have celebrated. The coins collected that day will be give to the Fischer House Foundation. A container for your coins will be on the table, so don’t put your birthday offering in the offering plate. Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans'’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.
News from Didi
Didi and Serafina are now in Pennsylvania, visiting their children. Black Forest has sent them three things. When we had a great collection of shirts for orphans last year, the shirts that he could not take back have been sent to Didi’s daughter so he can take them this time. The money we offered for the repair of the church roof was mailed directly to Didi. We were also granted a Thrivent Action Team grant to help with shipping the shirts and a suitcase to carry them in, from Pennsylvania.
Didi indicated that the farmers are doing well and appreciate our support. Some raise enough for their family and some are even able to sell a little in the market. Since insufficient food is an ongoing problem in the DRC, supporting farmers helps a basic need.
The DRC continues to have ongoing turmoil, related to the government. The news is that the current president will not seek a third term, but “respect the constitution”. We have no way of knowing if this is really true, but there has been a lot of unrest and killing recently. We should pray for calm in the country and the safety of the Panzos when they return, as well as a good visit with their children.
Mark your calendar!
August 26 is our Annual Congregational Picnic! “Gather Together in Thanksgiving” Join us after outdoor worship to give thanks to God for our church community and all those who volunteer at BFLC.

Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for your generous sponsorship of meals at the Marian House Soup Kitchen on Thursday, May 31, 2018. Because of your generosity, 659 warm, nutritious meals were provided to 399 men, 140 women, 48 children and 151 seniors. And, 79 of those individuals received a second entree to help fill their hungry bellies. God bless you!
Thank you for your generous donations to RTLC for “blessing bags”. We were able to send them back to camp a large box of items to fill their bags. Thank you for all of your support to help make ‘VBS 2018’ a success! We had 34 kids from our church and community participate. With the help of 6 junior counselors and 8 adult volunteers the week went very smoothly. Also, a special thanks to those who provided snacks for the campers, as well as, meals and lodging for the Rainbow Trail counselors. Check out pictures from the fun week of VBS on the bulletin board!
Your generous gift of $750 to the Marian House Soup Kitchen Sponsor a Day will help us provide essential services to those who are most in need.

Safeway & King Soopers Gift Cards - Support for Black Forest Cares
Black Forest Lutheran Church participates in the “Reloadable Gift Card” Program that is offered by Safeway and King Soopers grocery stores. There is no cost to you, but once all participants’ combined purchases reach $5,000, Black Forest Cares receives a check for $250 (5%)! This money is then used to purchase the items needed to fill the grocery bags given to clients to provide a balanced diet. We encourage our members who shop at either Safeway or Kings to participate! It starts with the purchase of a gift card for $10. The card has $10 on it, so there is no cost to you. The card must be purchased through the church so the proceeds are linked to Black Forest Cares. On average participation through our members generate almost $1,000 annually.
For more information about this project or to purchase a $10 card, please contact is Mary Montie.
Volunteers for Marian House
Black Forest Lutheran Church works at the Marian House Soup Kitchen at 14 Bijou Street on the last Thursday of every month from 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM. On an average we serve close to 700 men, women and children. We normally have from 12-16 volunteers from BFLC. If you are in a position to give one day a month to this worthwhile project, please contact me. We team up with members from Holy Trinity Catholic Church and have formed some great relationships. BFLC also works on fifth Saturdays, so if you are not available during the week, we can always use the help on those Saturdays.
BFLC Mom's Group
The BFLC Mom’s Group has a faithful group of young mothers who have enjoyed Bible Studies, Yoga, and visits to the park. They meet regularly on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month in the Fellowship Hall. If you have any questions or would like to join these ladies, contact Misty Hopp.
This summer we are focusing on intergenerational events, where you can bring the whole family or come by yourself. In June, a group of about 15 people went to the Sky Sox Baseball game. It was breezy, but fun cheering on the hometown team.
Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp
Cameron Regennitter will be High Ropes Coordinator at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp this summer. RTLC is asking for prayers, supporting letters, and care packages for our young folk. You can send the above to:

RTLC is a great opportunity for our children to grow spiritually and grow into future leaders.
The Social Ministry Committee will host its annual Lemonade and Gingersnap Sunday following outdoor worship on Sunday, August 12. This is a fundraiser to enhance the yearly financial gift BFLC gives to our Mission Partner - Cristo Rey in El Paso, TX. The gingersnaps made by members of the Committee are homemade and melt in your mouth! The lemonade will be icy cold. Please join us!
Lutheran Family Services 2018 School Supply Drive
We don’t need backpacks – only school supplies. There is no list of specific items yet, but we can assume the standard supplies for elementary and middle schools. You may also donate small ($10 - $25) gift cards to help the kids purchase new shoes/clothes for school (Target, WalMart etc.) People can drop off their donations in the Fellowship Hall and put in grey cart, marked LFS-School Supplies. The drive will end Sunday, July 22. Contact Susan Harrison for any questions.
