Advent is the season of hope and expectation. It’s the 4 weeks before the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Each Sunday we light one more candle on the Advent wreath and await His coming.
Let the rhythm of Advent, focus your attention on the Hope of Christ. I invite you to make use of our Advent devotional booklet, “Descend To Us, We Pray” to guide your thoughts each day.

Holidays and Grief
Holidays can be a hard time for those in grief. Memories of time spent together at Thanksgiving and Christmas can magnify emotions and intensify grief. I will offer a grief support class Sunday mornings beginning December 3 at 9:30 AM.
Intergenerational Christmas Program - Sunday, December 17 at 4:30 PM
Santa Claus knows the story of Jesus’ birth?
Come join us for a new perspective on the Christmas Story. Usually we refer to this program as the “Children’s Christmas Program”, however, this year all ages have been invited to participate.
Several of our members have been given the gift of music, which they will be sharing with the congregation. Please join us as Mrs. Claus (Donna Wesley) tells her favorite story.
Arrive 15 minutes early to hear a beautiful prelude performed by our talented youth. Plan to stay after the program for cookies. Support our cast with your presence; Jesus’ birth is why we celebrate Christmas.
PS - Please bring a plate of cookies to share!

Travel Group Calendar of Events

Contact Donna Ewers if you would like to participate in these events.
Black Forest Cares says a hearty thank you for generously donating food, turkeys and monetary donations for our families this Thanksgiving. They are very grateful!
Thank you Steve Gurnett…. Have you noticed the new addition outside of the fellowship hall entrance? Steve Gurnett used his time and talents to carve the bears Rack, Shack, and Benny (Daniel 3) into a tree stump. We are reminded of Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Thank you for the cards, prayers, and healing thoughts. The prayer shawl is not only beautiful, but so soft and comforting. God was truly by my side through probably the most difficult and frightening time in my life. I am doing well, but He still has to remind me now and again not to over do and to leave Him in command. Grace & Joy,
The Morlan family has moved. Tom helped lead Men’s Bible study. Angie was part of the worship committee and a substitute organist. Christopher was part of Sunday School and loved all the youth activities. But the easiest way to identify them was 8:00 AM service front pew, left side. “It is with great sadness that we must leave this church. We have lived in Falcon, CO for over 15 years and it was only until the last couple years that we finally found our church home. We have so loved our time spent at BFLC.”
We pray for God’s blessing on them as the Morlan’s will be in Stuttgart, Germany for 3 years.
BFLC Staff Christmas Gift
It has been the practice for many years to invite special contributions from the members of the congregation towards a cash Christmas gift for the paid staff of Black Forest Lutheran Church. This includes not only the Pastor, but our Ministry Coordinator, our Interim Youth/Education Director, our Administrative Assistant, our Organist and Choir director.
If you would like to contribute to the staff gift you may:

You can denote the name of a loved one you wish to dedicate or remember on the signup sheet.
The plants may be picked up following the 7:30 PM Christmas Eve Service.

Got your attention?
Janeen Anderson has offered to facilitate a six-lecture class on obesity, diabetes and diet. Your belief system will be challenged.
The lectures are presented by Dr. Jason Fung, a nephrologist in Canada. In trying to help his diabetic patients, he put them on a low carb diet, but they either couldn’t understand it or couldn’t follow it. He went to intermittent fasting with amazing results! The lectures will explain the science behind his advice. They are designed for presentation to medical personnel; however, I have watched them and find them easy to follow, as long as you have an interest. If he uses “big” words, he defines them.
I will be posting an interest sheet on the bulletin board. Classes would begin sometime after the holidays. Janeen is willing to do them either on a Saturday or on an evening starting at 6:00 PM. Each class will run 1 ½ hours, giving time for discussion. I will be posting an interest sheet on the bulletin board. Sign up if you would like to learn how wonderfully and intelligent God has designed our bodies to function, depending on what we put in them!
Here’s a strange request!
If you or your child has a stuffed lamb or sheep, could I borrow it for our pageant, which is on December 17? I would like to make a “flock” of sheep. You can place them in the laundry cart in the Fellowship Hall and I will take GOOD care of them. You may pick them up after the pageant or the following Sunday. Please put a name on the tag if you would like.
Cards Recycling Program
What do you do with all those beautiful Christmas cards sent to you? What about all the sample cards from organizations wanting a donation? Do you feel sad throwing out lovely birthday and anniversary cards you’ve received? Well, they can now be recycled. BFLC will be collecting them (look for the box in the Fellowship Hall) and sending them to St. Jude's Ranch for Children for its Recycled Card Program.
St. Jude’s turns the cards into “new” cards and sells them in packets. All occasion cards are accepted; birthday, anniversary, thank you, get well, holiday, etc. You can be of great help if you remember the following: Size preferred is 5”x7” or smaller; Hallmark, Disney and American Greeting cards are not accepted; and the backside of the card front must be clear of writing. If you have any questions, please see Chris Cooper.
Didi in the Congo
For now, Didi sounds safe in Boma. Serafina is in Pennsylvania, visiting their children. She will be there for a couple of months. Didi’s vehicle is fixed. He is once again able to travel around, but the roads and drivers are not very good. It is a bit of a lonely time for Didi with his wife away. If anyone would like to send him an email (email@example.com) he would surely appreciate it. He has been active helping, teaching and counseling young people who have been in abusive situations. They share the word of God and provide some food for them.
As we move into winter in Colorado, the DRC is moving into the hottest time of the year and temperatures often approach 100⁰ F. We have set up two accounts for Didi, at BFLC. One, called “Support”, provides for his salary and living expenses, including medical and retirement. The other, called “Ministry” provides funds for Didi to use when he is helping farmers, orphans or abused children. He is, however, still sounding limited by funding to help with much of the many needs in Boma.
Please continue to pray for his health and safety as there is considerable unrest in the Congo.

Mission Endowment Fund
As we approach year end, you may wish to maximize charitable deductions. One way to accomplish this is to contribute to the Mission Endowment Fund (MEF). The MEF manages gifts to the church under an investment concept.
Disbursements, beyond the operational budget of the church, are made to these worthy causes primarily from the income earned on investments.
