New Sunday Class - Luther on Marriage & Family - Beginning September 10 at 9:30 AM between services
One of the most important aspects of the Lutheran Reformation was its emphasis on the calling of the everyday Christian. At a time when being a monk or a pastor were thought of as the only genuine way to live one’s life for the Lord, Luther spoke of the Christian life as something all believers live through faith. One of the most important vocations in which many of us serve is in the area of marriage and families—as husbands and wives, parents and children, and members of the extended Christian community. This six-session Bible study focuses on these important themes, based on foundational texts from Scripture. The study also draws from the real-life experiences of Martin and Katie Luther, who were not only husband and wife, but the parents of several children. Included are excerpts from Luther’s personal writings to family and friends as they faced the good and bad that come in everyday living, sustained through the struggles and joys we all have through faith in Christ. The discussion questions focus participates’ attention on God’s Word, making direct application to our present lives of faith.
Men’s Bible Study - first and third Saturday at 7:00 AM at the church. It is early, but worth the effort. We are studying: Ephesians

Pastor Perez will be visiting BFLC right after our Sept. 20th meeting and preaching on the 24th. The congregation made an initial order of 50 copies of The Blowing Wind and they are available at the church for $11. It is not a long book and a copy can easily be shared by two of three readers in the next month if anyone would like to coordinate with someone else. We will meet at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 20th in the Fellowship Hall for discussion and refreshments. The book even includes questions for discussion and reflection! Didi in the Congo
The daughters of Didi and Serafina, Nicole and Sarah, are safely back in Pennsylvania. They spent a month in Boma, with their parents. Both daughters had an opportunity to interact with the locals and eat local food. The women and children that Didi ministers to had an opportunity to meet his daughters. The girls got to see life without reliable electricity or Wifi in Boma. For now, the Panzos think they are safe from civil unrest. There have been times when it would not have been wise to go out on the street. The president of the DRC is long past his term of office; yet he refuses to have elections for a successor. No one knows what the future might hold as the opposition is becoming increasingly unhappy. We have been interacting with Didi in two areas: 1)Farmers and the benefit that they would gain from good seeds and fertilizer and 2) Improving the nutrition of the orphans Serafina is feeding. Helping with either is not a lot of money, but it requires a defined plan and WMPL approval. Also, there needs to be a means to reliably ship food to Boma.
Senior Social - September 27 and October 25 at 1:00 PM
Join us for our monthly get together to socialize, play dominoes, or do crafts. There is no obligation to participate in the games. Individuals bring their own crafts to work on. Others use the opportunity to just sit and talk. Light snacks are provided.
10 years ago when I was hired I never could have imagined what a blessing this job and you all would be. I am so thankful for all of you - the prayers, cards, hugs, food, and so much more! I am doing great after my surgery and glad to be back. Blessings,
P.S. If you are missing a dish, please let me know. I did put some in the kitchen.
Dear Black Forest Lutheran Church Family,
We love you all! We are so thankful for your love, support, and generosity before, during or after the baby shower for our daughter Hephzibah Jewel. Thank you for being such a Christ-like congregation in rejoicing with those who rejoice and mourning with those who mourn. It is an honor for us to be walking alongside you and being able to minister amongst you. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May he repay a hundredfold that which you generously gave us.
